Who we are
Contraptify is published by Torsvik Labs (org. no. 937 316 704), Norway. Contact: hello@contraptify.com.
What we collect
- Visits. Our host, Vercel, logs each request (IP address, time, page, browser) to run and protect the site. We count page views with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and stores no IP addresses.
- Cookieless browser statistics (PostHog EU). We also measure how the site is used with PostHog, a service hosted in the EU, in cookieless mode. It records the pages you view and leave, the links and buttons you click, the page you came from (without any query string after the address), your approximate location from your IP address, and your type of device, browser and operating system. It never records what you type or the text on the page. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Visits are grouped by a hash of your IP address and browser that changes every day, so PostHog cannot follow you from one day to the next or identify you. There are no screen recordings. PostHog stores the data in the EU (Frankfurt). We use it to see how people find and use the site.
- Designs sent through the connector. When your AI uses the Contraptify connector, it sends us the machine design (a list of blocks). We simulate it and send back the result. We don't store designs.
- Connector usage. For each use of the connector our server sends PostHog (EU) a usage event: which tool was used, when, whether it worked (and if not, only the kind of error), how long it took, how many blocks the design had, how many ticks it ran and whether its test passed, which of our examples was opened, the name and version of your AI app (for example Claude) and a random connection id. Not your IP address, not the design and nothing that identifies you. We use it to keep the service running and to see which tools are used.
- Server errors. When our connector server fails, it sends Sentry (EU) an error report: the kind of error, where in our code it happened, which tool was used, and our server version. Not your IP address, not the design and nothing that identifies you. We use it to find and fix bugs.
- The 3D viewer's code. The 3D viewer loads its code libraries from cdnjs (Cloudflare) and jsDelivr. Your browser connects to them, so they see your IP address.
- On your device. The site stores your colour theme in your browser. Nothing is sent to us.
We use no cookies, show no ads and don't sell or share data for marketing.
Why, and on what basis
To run, secure and improve the site and the connector (our legitimate interest, GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)), and to give you the result you asked for through the connector. The browser statistics are cookieless and store nothing on your device. Connector usage events and error reports are sent from our server, so nothing is stored on or read from your device for them.
How long
Hosting logs are kept as long as Vercel's log retention allows (a few days). Page-view totals, browser statistics and connector usage events are kept for up to 12 months. Error reports are kept for up to 90 days.
Where
Browser statistics and connector usage events are stored by PostHog in the EU, and error reports by Sentry in the EU. PostHog, Sentry, Vercel and the code libraries' hosts may process data outside the EEA, under the EU's standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights
You can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of your data, and object to processing, including the browser statistics, connector usage events and error reports: write to hello@contraptify.com. You can complain to Datatilsynet, the Norwegian data protection authority.
Children
Contraptify is for people aged 13 and older. It has no accounts and collects nothing that identifies a person, at any age. If you are under 13, ask a parent or guardian before you use it. Parents can write to hello@contraptify.com with any question.
Changes
We will update this page when we add accounts or saved designs, and the date above shows the last change.
