What Contraptify does

Contraptify is a connector for your AI app (Claude, ChatGPT or any app that takes MCP connectors). You ask your AI for a redstone machine. Your AI designs it and writes a test from what you asked for. Contraptify simulates the machine with Java Edition 26.3's redstone rules and tells your AI which parts of the test hold. Your AI fixes the design until the test passes, then shows you the machine in a 3D viewer in the chat. Connect your AI.

What to ask

  • "Build me a 2x2 piston door that opens with a button."
  • "Make a 4-digit combination lock with levers."
  • "Design a T flip-flop so one button turns a lamp on and off."
  • "Show me the 0-9 counter example and explain how it counts."
  • "My clock with two repeaters doesn't run. Here are the blocks: …"

Say what the machine must do and how a player uses it. Your AI turns that into the test.

The tools your AI uses

  • simulate: runs a design with its test and reports what holds, what fails and when.
  • explain: checks that every block belongs to an explained part.
  • list_examples and get_example: the ready-made machines, as starting points.
  • show: opens the 3D viewer. Press the machine's buttons, run it tick by tick and click any part to read what it does.

The tools only compute. They change nothing in your accounts and send nothing anywhere else.

What it can't do yet

  • It doesn't simulate items lying in the world, double chests, footsteps and flying items, TNT explosions, minecarts off the rails or bumping into things other than full blocks, and mobs.
  • It follows Java Edition only, not Bedrock Edition.
  • A design can have at most 20,000 blocks.
  • Results can be wrong. Test a machine in your own world before you rely on it.

If something goes wrong

  • No 3D viewer. Some apps (Claude Code, Cursor) can't show it. Your AI still gets the full test result as text.
  • The viewer looks old after an update. Your app may keep an old copy. Start a new chat, or remove the connector and add it again.
  • Your AI says the design is invalid. The reply names each problem, such as a block with nothing to stand on. Ask your AI to fix it and simulate again.
